Mediator, Registered Psychologist
Gerard now works primarily as a Mediator, he has been mediating for the Department of Building and Housing (DBH) since 2006 and has a part time private practice in psychology and mediation. Gerard has also provided coaching / assessment to participants on the LEADR 5 day courses and students on the Auckland University of Technology course Principles of Conflict Resolution.
Gerard is an experienced Psychologist, registered since 1995. The key areas that Gerard has worked in are anxiety, depression, and addictions (particularly gambling, and alcohol and drug addictions). Gerard has also worked as an employee assistance counsellor (addressing mainly workplace issues) and is experienced in providing professional supervision to staff at Accident Compensation Corporation and the Department of Corrections. Prior to registering as a psychologist Gerard trained and worked in the area of intellectual disability.
Gerard completed the flagship LEADR mediation course in 2003 and has undertaken other mediation training including Advanced Mediation Skills: Family Mediation Workshop presented by LEADR, 2010, and High Conflict Personalities, LEADR course, 2009. Gerard’s contribution to DBH was recognized with a Chief Executive Development Award to attend a week long Divorce Mediation Training Programme at Erickson Mediation Institute, Minneapolis, USA in 2008.
Gerard is on the LEADR Advanced Panel of Mediators, accredited to the Australian National Mediation Standard, and has attained certification at the International Mediation Institute (www.imimediation.org).
